Summer Reading Program

"Pop" on in for our summer bubble party! We will have multiple bubble stations and sidewalk chalk for all to use! This outdoor event is for children of all ages! 

Please remember to wear your sunscreen/bug spray and bring plenty of water!  No tickets or registration required.

The Next Chapter invites adults of all ages to join us for Matinee Mondays in Summer 2025. On Monday, July 21 at 2:00 PM, we look forward to showing Pretty in Pink, the 1986 coming of age romantic comedy starring Molly Ringwald, Andrew McCarthy, Jon Cryer, James Spader, and Harry Dean Stanton. Rated PG-13, this movie runs 1 hour, 37 minutes. This film includes Closed Captioning.

Join us every Monday to create a new masterpiece! In this program you will learn about various types of art and use a variety of medium to create a unique art project each week. This program is geared toward children ages 5-12 years old.

Space is limited; event may be held in groups with staggering start times if room reaches capacity. Please pick up your free tickets at the Children's Reference Desk every Monday the program is held, beginning at 1:45 pm.

The Houston Ballet is back for the Summer at the JC Library! Come ready to move and dance for the Move and Read Aloud Program brought to the JC Library by the Houston Ballet! Dance to Learn is a movement integration program that approaches academic curriculum from a kinesthetic perspective. A storytime format, but with LOTS more movement and dancing!

* program runs for 8 weeks starting June 2nd, registration is required

*intended for PK-2nd, siblings welcome!

Library programs are always FREE!

ART ROCKS! Join us throughout the summer to design and paint garden rocks. Rocks can be taken home for decor or placed in local parks and flowerbeds to spread the beauty of art with your world!

Come see real live snakes up close! Join us as we learn about the various species of snakes in Texas and the surrounding region. If you're lucky, you might just get to touch a snake! Suggested ages 4-8 years old.

Space is limited, tickets are required. Free tickets will be handed out at the Children's Reference Desk beginning on Monday, July 21st.

Join us for 30 minutes of story time for our youngest library users! Our “Little Readers” program is for children 0 to 5 years old and their caregivers. Little Readers features books, stories, songs, movements and group play time. Come and develop your child’s early literacy skills in this fun environment.

Bring your competitive spirit to game day where you can play a variety of board games.

ickets are required for all programs unless otherwise noted. They are free and available starting 30 minutes before the program begins at the Children’s Information Desk. Tickets are limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Come and join us for 45 minutes of sensory exploration and discovery! Our "Little Explorers" program is for preschool age children from 0 - 5 years old and their caregivers. Please dress to get messy! This event is free to attend and all materials will be provided. Each session requires a free ticket for kids in attendance. Tickets are available in the library on the morning of the event.
